Titus 2:10, "Not purloining, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things."
The power of beautiful lives: aged men and women, young women, mothers, young men, and slaves were exhorted to be so faithful to the natural obligations of their own stations in life that critics of their religion would be silenced.
Slaves, of whom there were many in the early church, were exhorted to be so obedient, diligent, and faithful that their lives would "adorn" their religious profession. Thus, their heathen masters would be constrained to think, "If that is what the Christian religion does for salves, there must be something to it."
While we love and preach the Apostolic Doctrine with great enthusiasm, godly living must accompany such preaching. It has been said that our lives speak so loudly our words cannot be heard.
Just as a person adorns a nice suit of clothing with the proper tie, shirt, and shoes, so must a Christian adorn his doctrine with a sweet, gentle, and pleasant attitude. It seems that some wear their clothes so neatly and carry themselves so gracefully they always look nice and well dressed. The same is true with our church doctrine. If we practice Christian grace and poise, we shall beautifully adorn our doctrine.
